Roland in Sitka

Roland Smith is spending two days in Sitka. Today he met with sixth and seventh graders at Blatchley Middle School. Later in the day he held an audioconference with schools around the state. Here he is answering questions from students in Valdez. Thanks also to Kokhanok School for their participation. Stay tuned to the blog. Mr. Smith will be visiting the blog and reading your messages.

Roland's visit was a great experience for students and teachers. His theme of "anyone can write" was an inspiring message. I feel like single-handedly capturing a Bengal tiger, keeping it in a sanctuary I will start in my backyard, then mapping out the resulting novel on a story board.

Super lessons in Roland's talk to students and teachers. Fast pace kept students from getting bored and lots of questions in the talk with students giving answers which kept them engaged and feeling like they were participating. His many experiences and all his encouragement were such an inspiration! He got us all excited and thinking we could do what he did!! Gunalcheesh to all for supporting and making his visit happen!

I was amazed at all of the books that Roland has written! I can't wait to start reading them. The stories sounded so interesting and I loved hearing about Roland's real-life experiences that led to the writing of these books. My only dilemma is choosing which book to read first!
