Ben will presenting "Becoming the Author of Your Own Life" at Kettleson Memorial Library today. Kettleson's youth services librarian, Maite "Mighty" Lorente has been working to include Mount Edgecumbe (MEHS) and home-schooled students in the event.

You can read about MEHS's preparation for Ben's visit at the Spirit of Reading website. MEHS librarian Erika Drain helped come up with the Spirit of Reading grant application! Alice Smith will be filming the presentation for local access television.

Ben's presentation & slideshow at Kettleson Memorial Library today was awesome. He is an inspiration to anyone who wants to write (or fly!) and is warm and engaging. As an adult, I had never read any of his books, but I left with 3 I bought - one for a gift and 2 to read myself. (Petey and Touching Spirit Bear). To the librarians - Thanks for organizing this. I know the school kids will love his talks tomorrow.

Ben Mikaelsen is an amazing author AND a personable, compassionate, empathetic, fun and honest human being.
His presentation at our public library was captivating. His words were motivational and informing, and above all, warm. I was moved by his work in Guatemala, a place where I have lived for four years and a country that I love. I thank Ben for his generosity and his powerful message. Differences are what make each one unique. The power of writing comes from our unique experiences in life. Ben’s words will stay at Kettleson. The gorgeous view of our library was the perfect environment for a perfect moment. Thank you, Ben.

I forgot to add that it was a pleasure to watch the reactions of the young adults among our audience. They were listening! They were laughing! They were just tune in!!! It was the greatest experience ever. As a youth adult librarian, it made me immensely happy. Thanks again, Ben!!!

I am still laughing with Ben's anecdote about a particular NASA trip...Please, ask him to tell it again. It was hilarious.

2.Ben shared his personal photos with us. Ask him for them. There is a message in each one, a story.

    3. Thanks to the Friends of the Library, Kettleson got 10 signed copies to give away as prizes for our Summer Reading Program. Thank you!!!

    4. Don't let him go!!!
