Dinner with Ben

Sunday, March 1
Channel Club, Sitka

We reserved a table for eight at the Channel Club and invited Ben for dinner there. Most opted for the "Recession Special" - a Cajun shrimp pasta that was excellent. We talked about books, fishing, Alaska, and censorship. A great evening after a fantastic day!

It was with pleasure that my husband Tom and I joined BMS librarian Kari Sagel, author Ben Mikaelsen, and other educators for dinner tonight. The conversation often centered around one of my favorite topics - Sitka. Mikaelsen is interested in boating around Alaska, so Tom and I shared some of our adventures of living on a boat for five years in Sitka. He shared stories of how he gathered information for his books. We are fortunate in Sitka to have such lovely evenings with beautiful sunsets, good food, and good company. We are also fortunate that librarians such as Ms. Sagel and Ms. Blackson support bringing authors such as Ben Mikaelsen to Sitka for our children and others to enjoy--another reason we love living in Sitka!
