Blatchley BBQ

Blatchley Middle School, Sitka
Blatchley held a readathon to raise money for Ben's visit. Kids collected sponsors and then came to the library to read on the readathon day. A few students outdid themselves in the readathon. Top moneyraisers were invited on a field trip to Sitka's Fortress of the Bear where they watched the bears eating live fish for the first time. Ryan made an audio postcard of the event for Raven Radio.
All readathoners have been invited to a BBQ at Halibut Point Rec to eat hot dogs and spend time with Ben. Mr. Allison is going out early to start the fire, chill the drinks, and sharpen sticks for the hot dogs.
The high school Battle of the Books team has been invited to the BBQ. The team did really well this year finishing sixth out of twenty-eight places.
There have been rumors that the BBQ is going to be crashed! Students who did not participate in the BBQ don't want to wait until Ben's visit to our school on Monday. One student asked, "Are there going to be bouncers?" High school librarian Ginny Blackson had this to say about the potential for a crush of gatecrashers at the rec: "Any reading event that gets crashed is a GOOOOOD reading event!"

Thank you for coming to Sitka and having a BBQ for us, and talking to us about that you used to always get beat up and you never stopped from making your dream come true.
Thanks Sincerely,
JJ

hey Ben,
the book Touching Spirit Bear was a sad, good, interesting book and I enjoyed it very much. The presentatioin was fun and cool to hear about your child hood and it seems like you strugled then. I thought it was funny when you acted funny during your presentaion. I see why you spelled the word "the" wrong and yes im the one who asked you that if you remember me?? Just to close up this I just wanted to say that I think the book Touching Spirit Bear is one of thee best books I have read out of all the books IL have read. One more thing I thank you for coming to talk to al of us.
Thank you Ben!! again.
